The Dirt:
Cell-Nique is the classic case of an enlightened former business executive who left steak dinners and boys’ nights out behind for a sophisticated back-to-basics approach. Dan Ratner, a former healthcare manager at PriceWaterhouseCoopers and General Electric Capital, left the corporate world in the stressful tri-state area when the diet and lifestyle began to take a toll on his health. He grew tired of feeling sluggish and having little energy and realized he was in need of both cleansing and alkalinizing. This led to the desire to create a way to garner sustainable, healthy energy during midlife. Hence, the birth of Cell-Nique.
Ratner noticed that after eating meat and foods with refined sugars, such as corn syrup, he felt sluggish and lethargic. Upon embracing healthier lifestyles, such as ayurvedic, which focuses on positive energy, he began developing the product.
Cell-Nique is billed as a cleansing super green drink that nourishes, cleanses, alkalinizes and helps users live healthy lives. Imagine the powder greens and reds supplements. Now mix them together and add a few more supplements, such as ginkgo, and you have
Cell-Nique.
Each 12-ounce drink is about 85 calories, with no artificial additives or added sugars. We like apple the best since it tastes the most like a regular juice, with a touch of a spirulina taste. The gluten-free drinks are sweetened with low glycemic plant-based sweeteners including agave and lo han. The vanilla is a bit sweet and has 20 grams of sugar, while the others have just 13 grams per bottle. Each bottle also has 7 grams of protein, 400% RDA of vitamin C, 332% RDA of vitamin E, 13% iron, 14% vitamin E and 27% of your daily calcium needs. We also love the pomegranate and kukicha tea flavors. Mainly, though, we are impressed by how this company has managed to get all the hot new super foods into one bottle, from 160 mg of gotu kola to 500 mg each of acai and goji, to 1085 mg each of noni and hemp protein. We don’t know how they do it, but we are thrilled to know they have.
