Onsite Airport Accommodations
Futuristic Airport Resting Spots

What: A European company has taken a Japanese travel trend and tweaked it to lure the jetset.

The Dirt:
Taking cues from the Eastern world, a European company called Yotel has created the perfect product for frequent travelers: the onsite airport hotel room. The U.K.-based firm was likely inspired by options available at Japan’s Narita International Airport, which among other options including nurseries and smoking rooms, offers day rooms with or without showers, that are rented by the hour. The area lounge has vending machines, magazines and newspapers and Internet access. Yotel is the vamped up, cruise-inspired hip version of the day room. The firm first launched in 2007, proving airport amenities will soon far surpass prayer and conference rooms and mall-style shopping.

The U.K. company has locations in London’s Gatwick and Heathrow airports and in Amsterdam. The yotel rooms are cabins that resemble cruise ship rooms. Imagine a 4-star hotel with the mood lighting employed by Virgin America, the popular rain shower and flat screen television amenities, free wireless Internet access and a flight attendant-like crew and you have Yotel. Rented in four-hour blocks, the rooms are located inside the terminal. Options include single, twin and double rooms.
